Artist Statement / Bio

In 2006, Hannah moved from Oklahoma to Denver, art-starved and on a mission to be her most creative self. She fell in love with Denver; the history of the buildings, the characters that live there, the whispering sounds of radiator heat in the winter, the creaking of hundred year old floors. The people and faces she had been scribbling onto paper for years were suddenly relevant in context to the city. With pastel in hand, people appear on her paper…a little of then, a little of now, a little of their costumes, a little of ours, and when the pastel dust finally settles… a picture of Denver’s ghosts combined with a picture of us…a picture of what is wonderful about our city! When Hannah isn’t in the studio, she is people watching on Colfax, shopping for vintage frames for her paper people to live in, or on the 5th floor of the downtown library reading newspapers from the 1800’s.
